Hydor Wavemaker 2 Control System
Connect 1 or 2 Koralia 12V low voltage pumps and create great circulation and effects in your marine aquarium. Many setting possibilities: alternate or synchronous flow; automatic* or manual night mode; feeding mode. Quiet, efficient, precise, safe.
The Wavemaker 2 is a very easy to use surge controller, with controls that are simple and easy to understand. Controls consist of three rotating dials and a single push-button, set in a triangular pattern. The dial at the apex of the triangle controls the timing of the pumps alternating flow. This can be set anywhere between 2 seconds and 6 hours, enabling you to reproduce a wave effect if you opt for shorter periods or a tidal effect if you set the period to the full 6 hours.
The dials at the two lower corners of the triangle allow you to set the intensity of flow, the left one controls the minimum flow setting and the right one controls the maximum flow setting.
The button set centrally between the flow intensity dials serves two purposes, switching both pumps to minimum flow for either feeding mode or night mode.
Feeding Mode:
If you depress the button the pumps go to the minimum flow setting for feeding mode, left alone it will return to the programmed settings after 5 minutes, although you can switch feeding mode off any time you like with another depression of the button.
Night Mode:
If the button is held down for around 3 seconds, again it goes to minimum flow, this time as night mode. A brief depression of the button will return the pumps back to the programmed settings.
By adding on an inexpensive sensor it’s possible to automate the night mode according to whether the aquarium lights are on or off.
Visual Alerts:
To keep you informed of what the Wavemaker is doing there’re 2 blue LED lights and 1 red LED light.
The red LED comes on to signify that the controller is in night mode.
The blue LEDs alter their intensity to show whether a pump is working at maximum or minimum flow.
Additionally the blue LEDs both drop in intensity, punctuated by 2 quick flashes at full intensity, to show that the controller is in feeding mode.
The blue LEDs flashing alternately warn that minimum power has been set higher than the pumps’ maximum power.
If all the LEDs flash it’s a signal that an error has been detected by the Wavemaker’s safety system.
Operation:
In operation this is a very easy system to set up. It’s just a case of positioning the Koralia pumps where you want them in your reef aquarium, plugging them into the Wavemaker, and turning it on.
When the unit is turned on it runs a systems check, taking around 15 seconds, before turning the pumps on alternately. It’s only when the pumps first start up that any noise is heard from the pumps or controller.
When the program is running neither of the pumps actually comes to a full stop, they’re continually running albeit at a lower intensity. This is a very useful feature as if a propeller type pump such as a Koralia, stops, it opens up the possibility of a blockage (fish), entering the pump and being mangled when the pump re-starts. Thanks to the fact that the pumps never stop, this scenario should be prevented.
Synchronous Flow Mode:
In addition to the alternate flow described above it’s also possible to set the Wavemaker to produce synchronous flow, to run both pumps together at the same intensity. This can produce quite a different, and more powerful surge effect. To get into synchronous effect it’s just a case of holding the button down for around 10 seconds, repeating this procedure will return the pumps to alternate flow. The blue LEDs show that the controller is in synchronous mode by being lit at the same intensity.
Note: Only Koralia 12v pumps can be controlled by the Wavemaker 2
