Your goldfish live in their own toilet. The solid waste can make their bowl cloudy with waste particles and other dissolved toxic fish waste extreted by the fish pollutes the water. This is both unsightly and more importantly unhealthy for your fish. Undergravel filtration creates a clear healthy aquarium by; trapping suspended waste matter, biologically removing the toxic fish waste.

How does the filter work?

An air pump creates a flow of bubbles that in turn pulls water through the gravel at the bottom of the bowl where waste material is trapped. Bacteria growiing on the gravel biologically remove the toxic fish waste as the water passes through it. The biological process can take up to six weeks to mature. The water then flows through the fish plate and up with the bubbles from the air pump to the top of the bowl.
